Frozen

Happy New Year friends!!  We're winging our way into 2014 full of hope and promise!  Hope you and yours have a joyous and prosperous New Year!

I feel like I haven't been able to truly warm up here since sometime in mid November.  Brrr!  It definitely has me longing for the days when we lived in Hawaii.  As frequently happens to me, I tend to paint in waves of colors that speak to my 'moments'.  That's not weird or anything is it?  Right now I'm thinking of all things frosty.  Perhaps even the new movie Frozen.  And since I want to start my New Year off right here is a reveal just for you!  This pretty little vintage Chest on Chest Dresser was purchased from a client when she decided she no longer needed it.  Other than some veneer chips it was in excellent condition.
I mixed the palest of blues with some Old White and Duck Egg.  I love those feet!
Using only the Old White and Duck Egg I tried to give the illusion of a line of trees covered in a soft layer of snow.  I am not a fine artist by any stretch of any one's imagination, but I thought it worked out well in that lovely oval frame.
New glass bubbly hardware only adds more of that frothy frosty feeling.
On the upper drawers I found some cute silver metal knobs put opted to paint them with the Old White to repeat the snowy look.
I wish I had some better lighting to do this piece some justice, but it's just too cold to open up the workshop doors for a good photo.  And darn it, wouldn't you know we have a nice little coating of snow for a backdrop!
So tell me what you think of "Frozen", and I hope you are staying warm wherever you are!

Sittin' Around

I finished this chair ages ago, but simply kept forgetting to take any beauty shots and share her.  Does that mean I'm really getting old?  As long as I don't get "funny" too, because I have a promise with the Mr. that we can not get old and "funny" acting both.

Look at her 'Queenly' curved back, lovely!  She's pretty with her Old White paint and indigo and off white fabric cushion.
It does not get any better than comfy and curvy both.  Love this one a lot, she makes me happy.  Just shabby enough to be interesting.  She actually looks kind of lovely in the garden.  Hello purple cone flowers. :-)  They make me happy too.
And if her curves are not enough for you, she has pretty little claw feet too.  She's for sale, just let me know if she belongs to you next!  I'm warning you though, the longer I sit and look at this piece in the workshop the more likely I am to move it into the house and find a spot.  Just sayin'.
Have a super week and enjoy these last few days of summer.  Here we go August!

Chasing Squirrels

A friend and I have a joke we share.  It never fails we'll be chatting and we'll notice something shiny or pretty, aka a squirrel, nearby and off we go on a different conversational tangent!  Sometimes we'll even shout "squirrel" just like Dug the dog from the Up! movie.  I actually thought about naming my blog "Chasing Squirrels" due to the fact that I have something of a tendancy to be headed one direction with a project and off I go in a different direction or sometimes on a totally different direction.  Will there ever be enough hours in my life to accomplish every thing I want to do?!  Lately I've been working on a few projects around the house that are just for us!  Today's post is one of those projects.  Sadly I forgot to take a before photo of this buffet, but I will tell you that it was pretty sound and not in too bad of shape when we got it.  Other than some sticky drawers that needed work it wasn't bad.  It also had hardware on it that were not to scale for this piece.  You know that Burger King commercial with the guy that won't go get the Whopper because his hands are just so small?...  Yeah, the pulls were all really tiny and this piece is substantial.  Here she is ready for her debut.
I painted her with Old Ochre and Old White on the details.  For this space I wanted to kind of keep it light and neutral and those two paints together gave me just the look I wanted.
Look at that pie crust trim, pretty huh?  I loved the many different trims from the minute we brought this one home.  The top was in perfect shape and after sanding I added the Jacobean stain and antique oil finish.
I found some really large bronze oiled knobs that look so much better on her!  I think she can feel better about her assets now that she is balanced!
Here are a couple of recent finds too, pretty little silver bowl and heavens but I love that peacock feather!  Check this out...
wonderful little horse head I sprayed white and the pretty, slightly tarnished pitcher.  The "finding" has been good lately which is just so much fun!

So, do any of you end up chasing a squirrel in the middle of a project?  I do hope to eventually have a Master bedroom reveal for you, but please don't hold your breath.  There are just so many pretty/shiny things out there!

Hope your week is wonderful!
