I'm gone, then back, then gone, then back... I find it harder and harder to keep up with all the social media sites like I should. If I do what I should to promote my business I don't find enough time to do my business. Then there's the needed improvements I SHOULD make to staging my finished pieces. The improvements I SHOULD make to my photography skills. The improvements I SHOULD make to the blog. (The blog I ignore too often.) The list goes on and on and I'm a one woman operation, with an occasional assist from the Mr. and one or two of the minions. I've toyed with closing down the blog and just concentrating on FB, Pinterest, and Instagram. What to do, what to do? So if it goes quiet here check the FB and Pinterest button on the blog for a link. You can also look me up on FB, Pinterest, and IG as "Twice Nice Furniture and Home Decor and/or Twice Nice Furniture & Home Decor". Or for that matter, even when it is not quiet here check in on me there. I promise I am much more prolific over there right now. <br />
<br />
But I am here today and will update some recent finishes for you to see that I am still in business!<br />
<br />
These sweet little pieces were just a plain golden oak when I began. Very 80's, if you know what I mean.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Mc5UnNcF6jH9yiPwDaRA_vBTctYbs8XhS6Vf26l2w8o8M-rGAHJuHTAjjhw-zd0RBdJp21mTZuBaTXr_Uia0qt1XNXy58I-ZXKioyeSTSpDCabhzsrpLdNkU0R76Ps_vh0uS85wiBP0/s1600/mocha1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="356" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Mc5UnNcF6jH9yiPwDaRA_vBTctYbs8XhS6Vf26l2w8o8M-rGAHJuHTAjjhw-zd0RBdJp21mTZuBaTXr_Uia0qt1XNXy58I-ZXKioyeSTSpDCabhzsrpLdNkU0R76Ps_vh0uS85wiBP0/s640/mocha1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I painted her in a nice Taupe brown called 'Mocha' by Heirloom Traditions Paint. To add some depth I based it in 'Barkcloth' a Vintiques color by Heirloom Traditions Paint. Richened it up a bit I think!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The drawer fronts are covered with some pretty paper napkins I found and used our Heirloom Traditions product '1 Gel' to decoupage and seal. Easy peasy, you just separate the printed sheet from the 1 or 2 layers of white tissue sheets, then gently lay it over a nice thin layer of 1 Gel. I should do a quick video for you soon!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I kept this hardware because a.) it was a good, heavy quality handle b.) the color blended nicely with the golds in the tissue. and c.) because brass is coming back baby!<br />

Classic meets a bit of bold on these pieces and I do hope someone will love them as much as I do!<br />

This was a combined effort by myself and my right hand man the Mr. I had a tray that belonged in a trunk that I sold minus the tray because I couldn't find it at the time, and that's rather embarrassing to admit. But sometimes stuff happens right? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Anyway, the tray was fun and rustic and just required some fun little dry brushing to spiff it up a bit. Fun colors huh? Naval and Shabby Gray on these 2 sides, A La Mode inside the tray (Heirloom Traditions Paint)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Some Copper Piping attached and you have a unique side table, sofa table, or entry table. Super cute, somewhat industrial looking and very functional! BOOM! The Mr. and I make a pretty good team. Next time I will have to show you some of his 'lighting solutions'. He's so cute and talented!<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;">AND...</span><br />
Just to let you know I update a long ago post <a href="http://twicenice.blogspot.com/2012/06/gaga-sighting.html">Gaga Sighting</a> to include the plans and list of products we used to create ours. It is a very popular post for those looking to create their own Gaga Pit, and we get many requests for our building plan. There are many ways to go about this and we researched online and made our own up. We are happy to share our thought process, but make no claims to being engineers or that this is an exact measurement of the original Gaga Pits. It works for us and we are simple DIYer's happy to share with you so that you can create your own backyard fun! Enjoy!<br />
<br />
Have a creative week! And Happy Memorial Day where we Celebrate and Honor those who serve and sacrifice for Our Country so that we can live Free. Never forget<br />

I'm telling you now this isn't about running a race. I WISH I liked running, really do. It's furniture though, and that's ok too. I have plenty of pieces that take a bit of time to fine tune the look I am going for. Lots of others that are simple and to the point. Once in a while though I like to just do a 'quick and done' piece. Though as I'm writing this, I just realized that it did take my husband a few extra hours to remove the tumbled rock mosaic tiles that were on the top. Oops. Ok, but the painting was a fast finish!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This cedar chest was handmade. And by that I mean well made, quality workmanship, probably with lots of love and attention to detail. Then time passed and someone decided to put their own spin on it. I'm kicking myself for not taking a photo of it, but we started demo as soon as we got her home. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There must have been a sale on backsplash or shower tiles at the big box store. The entire top had mastic adhesively applied tiles laid on in 12 inch sheets. Fortunately they never really got around to properly grouting. It looked hideous, and it was a bear to remove. I'm not sure if some of the gouges were there prior to the tile job, or as a result of removal. Regardless, if a storage box has dings then I will definitely use them to my advantage to make a primitive piece. Because I like primitives, and I LOVE trunks. If I didn't already have 9 or 10 around the house I'd keep this one. I'm still debating. I have college kids who will eventually need coffee tables or bedroom trunks after all. <br />

This color is 'Ball Jar Blue' a custom made color by Allison from Refunk My Junk that Heirloom Tradition Paints. It could be my new favorite. Lots of wet distressing and a bit of sanding too to get this old worn look. <br />
<br />
It was a fast finish for me. Everyone needs some instant gratification once in a while!<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

One of the reasons I am so pleased to have found Heirloom Traditions Paint Company is their forward thinking. They are always looking to be ahead of the game in formulating new products that our customers who create want and need. I honestly don't know when they sleep they are always working on not only products, but focused on making it easier for their retailers to best reach out. <br />
So before I forget, I would like to remind you that you can not only get 10% off your online orders by using my coupon code: TWICENICE every time you order, but for a limited time you will receive a free paint brush (value, $39) if your order is over $75! Sweet deal!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My booth has been totally restocked and I've not only brought in newly released products but also 2 new colors that have been custom created by either another retailer or one of our product ambassadors. Many of those colors are not on the normal color charts, but are available online for you to purchase and available with retailers who choose to add them to their stores. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I absolutely can not wait to try this color out! And yes, she said her inspiration for this color came from the Velvet Curtains at Elvis' Graceland. Isn't it stunning?<br />
<br />
Next, fellow retailer Susan, from <u>Extending Grace</u>, has created a must have in your stash color called Olive You.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA4X8bmDhlNCsURI6JZbI3MaABFQQjo6usi64MdiTnoiVwOE_0gQUXK1deVNXjB-EZg_S1Fn4aqV1CXOWTbrEHmGHB7wLjb0kkmvicvD-KbWtAn4rSRtNFtGuSY3q7IYdocxJ7N5oVygI/s1600/12661941_493931834144056_4551737783119821175_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA4X8bmDhlNCsURI6JZbI3MaABFQQjo6usi64MdiTnoiVwOE_0gQUXK1deVNXjB-EZg_S1Fn4aqV1CXOWTbrEHmGHB7wLjb0kkmvicvD-KbWtAn4rSRtNFtGuSY3q7IYdocxJ7N5oVygI/s400/12661941_493931834144056_4551737783119821175_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Not only is Susan a gifted painter, but she definitely has an eye for colors that will appeal to all of us. I just love this chest!<br />
<br />
I also added these newer products to my booth to help serve my customers better, and I am very excited about them.<br />
<br />
These are our new Metallic Top Coats. Metallic Masters Top Coats add sheer metallics that still allow your paint color to show through. You might remember that I used them on my little black side tables. <br />

I mottled mine intentionally, but it is just as gorgeous in a smooth brushed on finish. It is formulated to go over fully cured wax surfaces for added durability. I am stocked in these colors: Champagne Shimmer, Copper Penny, and Tarnished Silver. </div>

Finally, let me show you something that is truly a game changer! Re-Luv. Re-Luv is formulated to help you recolor your worn leather furniture, but it would also work on your leather briefcase, leather purse, or that leather pad on your desk. Endless possibilities! Here is an example by my friend Julia of <u>Shangri~La Lane</u></div>

I spent some time playing with some of Heirloom Traditions Paint new products over the break. One of them is the Metallic Top Coat. It's fabulous, and I'm so happy I'll be able to offer it up for my paint customers. Here is the before of the two side tables I completed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSuVizCICBv0ZEvDY76L530-yrsfkRszM3ZGt6T34kidr9BlrDx9ueyd9JzVa5PEYT9dHB_72Td-Zt-h1VoyXcjJo2G6bi3CzM9OFEIti_jUSUTxSwzl8-yo0ErC8rznHxjPAXFr886Ws/s1600/side+tables+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSuVizCICBv0ZEvDY76L530-yrsfkRszM3ZGt6T34kidr9BlrDx9ueyd9JzVa5PEYT9dHB_72Td-Zt-h1VoyXcjJo2G6bi3CzM9OFEIti_jUSUTxSwzl8-yo0ErC8rznHxjPAXFr886Ws/s400/side+tables+before.jpg" width="336" /></a></div>
Sorry, blurry cell phone photo...but at least I remembered. The finish wasn't bad, it just didn't do anything for me. So I painted them first in Black Bean. A true black by Heirloom Traditions Paint, that is fast becoming a best seller for me. Over the black I brushed on the Champagne Metallic Top Coat working in small sections because I wanted to go back and quickly rag off, or smudge, the top coat to mimic the look on the Mercury Glass hardware. See the smudging here...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8xz7Pw8MfbYXUCdmYarGa4cMhJSwbLLYx4yIWD0T6y5gyHBbL3_zsJ2Qutr7xJYBK9VTKk-vFwGa5623Ut40U8JYM8Ez8JlS-ppAWBhhko_17ejxdB8jLrG2kVB6cBgcqH1mYzN1vikw/s1600/sidetables5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8xz7Pw8MfbYXUCdmYarGa4cMhJSwbLLYx4yIWD0T6y5gyHBbL3_zsJ2Qutr7xJYBK9VTKk-vFwGa5623Ut40U8JYM8Ez8JlS-ppAWBhhko_17ejxdB8jLrG2kVB6cBgcqH1mYzN1vikw/s640/sidetables5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I like how it also lets more of the black bean color show through too. The Metallic Top Coats are really nice and opaque. The trick is to keep stirring your top coat to help keep the metallic fully suspended. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilPWlhyt7uVGhIOY1pQo_UQ-jQtTTgIR8R2k-zN3bLoW5UdpFYgBDc_aPDg04IoVA1YPuFJuMgzeFzzhuXFHBphDuq744gYuoUNG_GDwo7mSG56EgSvVUNpBhljojhri_qzjulGtLN-WE/s1600/sidetables4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="440" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilPWlhyt7uVGhIOY1pQo_UQ-jQtTTgIR8R2k-zN3bLoW5UdpFYgBDc_aPDg04IoVA1YPuFJuMgzeFzzhuXFHBphDuq744gYuoUNG_GDwo7mSG56EgSvVUNpBhljojhri_qzjulGtLN-WE/s640/sidetables4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It was so hard to get a good photo of the mercury glass knobs, but aren't they just the cutest little bars? Found these at Hobby Lobby if you want some too. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are a great size and a little on the taller end of side tables. Great bedside tables I would think. And now they have a touch of elegance about them. </div>

<br />
Not doing a resolution this year, but I do pledge to try and do better by this lonesome blog! It seems that more and more I find people interacting on Face book and Instagram than they do on the blogs. We are an instant gratification society anymore I am sad to say. While I still enjoy many long blog posts with lots of pictures, or descriptions on how a technique was achieved I fell into the fast track habit too. It takes time to edit photos that don't come off of my phone. It takes time to write a blog post too. Sometimes I'm not really feeling 'wordy' but I try to fill you in on what I am doing. But the comments and feedback are so few and far between that you begin to wonder if anyone is reading what you put on here anymore. Well, except for that person in Bulgaria or Finland that I see in the stats pages. I love imagining what they think of all this stuff. At any rate, I am not quite ready to give it up and I will try to do better at posting some content and photos, and maybe even some class listings. Do comment if you need more information. As always you can find me on FB, and Pinterest by following the buttons. You can always shop my paint store by clicking on the 'affiliate link' in the top right hand corner. I answer email and respond to comments generally. I am here for you Friends!<br />
<br />
Let's get on with the show. Here is a recent finish that is for sale. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTK7YzP0d3h8jmZzZdALRaVsf0BYSxeUquwWct6hR-sXqmkzQytEj-dIdSIe7Zyu9lnMcUT-PPwpp5UJbDLv789X5PGEWvAJtqTF4nbjqssj17vc-m4HT7pfbfCORXCiOewN2K01kw0X8/s1600/2016-01-13+01.42.30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTK7YzP0d3h8jmZzZdALRaVsf0BYSxeUquwWct6hR-sXqmkzQytEj-dIdSIe7Zyu9lnMcUT-PPwpp5UJbDLv789X5PGEWvAJtqTF4nbjqssj17vc-m4HT7pfbfCORXCiOewN2K01kw0X8/s640/2016-01-13+01.42.30.jpg" width="598" /></a></div>
And as you can see by the photo it has a spinning top! I'm kind of thinking this might be the coolest puzzle table that ever lived! It was a beat up, bedraggled, drab brown, with some heavy scratches on the top. I don't even want to know what it went through... This paint color is Peppery and reads pretty bright in the photo due to the warm winter sun shining on it. May I get an Amen for sunshine in the winter?!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1z8RzugpLX9tXuuPDlObKoKt9tl5yc9I8YHtR9P_9-ZzVO38cC8Hcq4Oljvqlz5IoZ-A1-_ndlbiwssFeLQwDjc6HrV3SjfYjNym44Jjzg_0wMd2bXEEulQVyGOYcTarhKybQ7K4CLTg/s1600/2016-01-13+01.43.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1z8RzugpLX9tXuuPDlObKoKt9tl5yc9I8YHtR9P_9-ZzVO38cC8Hcq4Oljvqlz5IoZ-A1-_ndlbiwssFeLQwDjc6HrV3SjfYjNym44Jjzg_0wMd2bXEEulQVyGOYcTarhKybQ7K4CLTg/s640/2016-01-13+01.43.02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I did not spend any time at all knocking down the scratched top because I knew I wanted to add some texture on there. I had some great napkins that I thought would work well. Napkins have typically 3 layers or ply. You have to remove the bottom 2 white layers to get to just the printed top napkin layer to carry off this project. But if you gently remove it (and honestly I didn't care if mine ripped a little as I wanted some of those peek-a-boo holes and even wrinkles) you can decoupage using our 1 Gel product. 1 Gel is also for an image transfer technique, but that's for another day. You simply brush on the 1 Gel and quickly lay your napkin down. I used a dry brush to smooth out the top of the napkin. I also tore around the edges to eliminate HARD edges on my table. If I found wrinkles I left them baby!<br />

Once the top was dry I gently sanded it. Yes, even over those wrinkles. If it was a bit loose I sanded off the excess tissue to let the paint show through. The napkin also tends to take on the paint color since it is so transparent with only 1 layer. Shown are some of the products I used on the table. I forgot to bring the 1 Gel outside. I used the Dark Umber Spray Wax to give the top an antiqued look, I followed with a very light coat of clear wax to remove some of the areas that I thought took too much of the dark wax and looked muddy. After letting that cure for over 24 hours I put 2 coats of Aqua Clear our water based sealant that will provide a bit more protection to the top. The legs and base were sealed with clear and dark wax and buffed. <br />

You've seen the numbers thing from me before. I don't even like math people...seriously. I do like words and word games so you'd think I'd try an alphabet something. Nope. I keep going back to the numbers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This table didn't even start out as a table. The base is from a Hall Tree stand. It was in pieces and not going to be a simple repair, so ta da...repurposed! The Colors are Heirloom Traditions Paint Irish Creme over Black Velvet/Raven. Love, love Irish Creme, it's such a pretty color.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just look at all of those dad gum numbers. Wish I liked Math. <br />
<br />
The Twice Nice Booth (#43) at the Brass Armadillo is stocked with my first order of Heirloom Traditions Paints! In addition to the new colors you can also find new colored waxes and spray waxes. I'll be putting in another order soon to expand our selections for you. Time to work on those Holiday projects or get your house glammed up for the Holiday parties! <br />
<br />
Not local, that's ok...there is a shop button in the top right hand corner of this page. Shop all the colors and both lines of paint and it will be delivered right to your doorstep!<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

Fall really is the time for change it seems and I see some new things around the corner here at Twice Nice! To begin with my DIY paint line is being rebranded and will debut very soon. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4bvH3lbt1mh5rhMGa7IZei9kVGC2nrlEOS7CMmRIr0nBnrVBfza7isqAo5JF2yhf8MPKCjy0WD2SdtrlqcAEGgtKRXl2cvycPKvlIMoewJ4D3AKMlYr6KWq3zcqDK8t4WwlLfHEgOhU/s1600/Vintiques+Retailer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw4bvH3lbt1mh5rhMGa7IZei9kVGC2nrlEOS7CMmRIr0nBnrVBfza7isqAo5JF2yhf8MPKCjy0WD2SdtrlqcAEGgtKRXl2cvycPKvlIMoewJ4D3AKMlYr6KWq3zcqDK8t4WwlLfHEgOhU/s640/Vintiques+Retailer.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Vintiques is the same great paint formula and same awesome colors. The colors will also be getting new names and an additional 3 colors will be added to the line, and there will be many new products I will be able to add soon also. Change can be difficult, but I am here to help you find the products you have come to love. <br />
<br />
And if that isn't enough to get you excited then how about this...I will be expanding the paint section to include the larger Heirloom Traditions Paint line and products!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDKNsGkbiQDmLzTAwzS7N0l5GHBxmPQKCFvx05r94zTZJvsAxmzVzfcuMWHVTkdUr6irT9-VhSexq9jBJRSJ2tUkbTW1zwC83_pi6G5DG3AS3F7QPsvkLoBGeHdsBFuYrx27AuZTe8mo/s1600/Heirloom+Traditions+Colors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="491" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDKNsGkbiQDmLzTAwzS7N0l5GHBxmPQKCFvx05r94zTZJvsAxmzVzfcuMWHVTkdUr6irT9-VhSexq9jBJRSJ2tUkbTW1zwC83_pi6G5DG3AS3F7QPsvkLoBGeHdsBFuYrx27AuZTe8mo/s640/Heirloom+Traditions+Colors.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I am beyond excited to bring you more colors (they offer over 50!), colored waxes, staining gels, and SPRAY WAX (yes, I am just a tad excited about this one)! It is going to be a grand adventure. There will be some upcoming demos and classes to introduce you to many of the newer products. I hope you will follow me on FB, Pinterest, and this blog, which I hope to breathe new life into, as I step out in faith and go BIG! Use the buttons on my page to find me and like/follow to see new product intro's and super inspiration!<br />
<br />
I also offer a shop now button on the right side bar for the convenience of shopping at home! <br />
<br />
Life gives us all kinds of twists and turns, but one thing remains the same. Me. I love what I do. I love helping you. I keep my soul fixed on He who guides me, my heart filled with love, and my hands busy using my gifts. Life is Great!! <br />
Go create something beautiful!<br />

So, we had the big sale in July. Which is earlier than we normally do, but we are excited to be offering the Prairie Market Holiday sale in November. Woot, woot! Normally I fall out of a rhythm of posting in the Fall, this time it happened in the Summer. I'm trying to get back on my game people (if any of you are still here). <br />
<br />
So, last night I had a workshop. We had so much fun making the spinning caddy that was a pinterest inspired project. Great group of women, great project, and great results. Can't beat that! Thanks to the Ladies, Laurie, Julie, Darcy, Kay & Deanna for all the laughs. We all stayed on task and you gals really rocked this project! Can't wait for the next one!<br />

There was quite the whirlwind around here, as there always is right before the sale. It takes a lot of work to create enough to stock our big events. We had a wonderful time, even though the heat was very oppressive! We appreciated each and every customer that took the time and were willing to wilt a bit while browsing our things. Not sure if we will choose July again for a sale though!<br />
<br />
I finished several pieces that I didn't even have time to blog about. I thought I would tell you a bit about them now that things are moving a bit slower.<br />
<br />
Last year when I did Junkstock I bought a table from a fellow vendor. She had stripped it down and refinished it. It's a lovely solid and very wide table with beautiful lines. This gal was not able to sand down past some of the wear and tear, but I never mind most of that once it is re-stained. It's the character and story of that piece, just like the lines and scars we all have. She did a beautiful job, so I left the top alone and only painted the legs and apron. Then I found some chairs that matched her style and viola`, she was ready to go. And she was looked over a lot! Sadly she didn't leave the barn, so she's still available if you are near Omaha, NE!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifO-M3rhPF_VQYmJU4VNrZCyZPh2ZdIcxjkYaYSvKbwrW6XfZXJvJkLWnb1P16Pl8NMtobAnKoc6pxiK34LQciCROA8wrj-tbMYVsJlCHQoe4gdLp7f15Tj1iLCt6FXv9KrL_4_Mp-Tow/s1600/Table%2526Chairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="416" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifO-M3rhPF_VQYmJU4VNrZCyZPh2ZdIcxjkYaYSvKbwrW6XfZXJvJkLWnb1P16Pl8NMtobAnKoc6pxiK34LQciCROA8wrj-tbMYVsJlCHQoe4gdLp7f15Tj1iLCt6FXv9KrL_4_Mp-Tow/s640/Table%2526Chairs.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The table base is painted in DIY Paint, Prairie Gray, the chairs in Mermaid Tail. The seats are recovered in a fabric that matches both colors perfectly. This table measures 45 inches wide x 54 inches long. That's wide enough to put two smaller sized chairs on the end for a large gathering. The large gathering is possible because there are three leaves that are 12 inches each. She makes into a BIG table!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLLblI2Y2rEb1ifO21I6wms4WtNGyefNRRNXiI2F4M9clqCnCiPFgNM77taq6qynbZ6VNSWNkN84KS2PEhtPzym_5S43Cry2M9Ba_DYaagV9zQteXqY8P6C1n82dmFiZOsb37eJkZJp1s/s1600/DSC_1100.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLLblI2Y2rEb1ifO21I6wms4WtNGyefNRRNXiI2F4M9clqCnCiPFgNM77taq6qynbZ6VNSWNkN84KS2PEhtPzym_5S43Cry2M9Ba_DYaagV9zQteXqY8P6C1n82dmFiZOsb37eJkZJp1s/s640/DSC_1100.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Look at that beautiful wood. Solid wood. Hard to find at a reasonable price these days. It's stunning and if I could talk my husband into moving the piano downstairs I would probably just keep this one myself. But, it's a piano, and you know how that goes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This fabric is just perfect with the 2 colors. I really debated about going bold with the chairs. You know though, life is too short to always take the safe route and these chairs are fun, flirty, and say that whoever owns them is not afraid to laugh out loud and enjoy life! Ok, I made that last part up, but you know what I mean. Live it up, have fun and here's the dining set to help you do it! ;-)<br />
<br />
Let me know if you have the perfect spot for these! And have a great week with, thankfully, much more pleasant weather for us!<br />

And I do!! We are in the big push to get everything set up for the Prairie Market Sale this Friday and Saturday, whew!<br />
<br />
At any rate this rare gal will be there waiting for someone to find her. And she's wearing her heart on her <strike>sleeve/</strike>chest. At least that's the way I see it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDPz38kAODfCYNB3bKER7F4y3zXWgFdB-BNEJ2FYjImyJPT4f95VPi8ehWty1hmTvU6qyiA2AA043vnED-82rKubCKdXhw4LGOLIPRs94juaUh6HPA0rKUBtG5IATAuKn-TNV7VV_h7s/s1600/Triangle1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDPz38kAODfCYNB3bKER7F4y3zXWgFdB-BNEJ2FYjImyJPT4f95VPi8ehWty1hmTvU6qyiA2AA043vnED-82rKubCKdXhw4LGOLIPRs94juaUh6HPA0rKUBtG5IATAuKn-TNV7VV_h7s/s640/Triangle1.jpg" width="546" /></a></div>
My hubby 'picked' this one for me. I just can't get over how these handles were positioned...and their lovely curvy nature.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBElzwzwl26WPOBOZUwoMTLrnmqVwvGGP4r5LyMDzhG_nuHQ6XkXY9wx30nzLsmqfMroZRohbNETJHXd3nmfWWw6F6ElR4l3T0Htc0jwGKOJgamc4rF3XJLa1gmmR0eGvBKJ9FFdDv11Y/s1600/Triangle3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBElzwzwl26WPOBOZUwoMTLrnmqVwvGGP4r5LyMDzhG_nuHQ6XkXY9wx30nzLsmqfMroZRohbNETJHXd3nmfWWw6F6ElR4l3T0Htc0jwGKOJgamc4rF3XJLa1gmmR0eGvBKJ9FFdDv11Y/s640/Triangle3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I mean, really, look at these!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzCEqFHsjy2xYkN-o8H5Sa92KQaHAwmxOeN2oEJ_eHQ63f7kJXDsfMDM5QLEbbwKEJWFInAlVsSBXWlaz8xs8vLzx0wfz6QnG6JTwNigylnd6aITxJ2w0e7Xn7luK5JIm0F9Etv2-0YZ4/s1600/Triangle2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="462" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzCEqFHsjy2xYkN-o8H5Sa92KQaHAwmxOeN2oEJ_eHQ63f7kJXDsfMDM5QLEbbwKEJWFInAlVsSBXWlaz8xs8vLzx0wfz6QnG6JTwNigylnd6aITxJ2w0e7Xn7luK5JIm0F9Etv2-0YZ4/s640/Triangle2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
These blond oak pieces sit ignored often. But I will tell you, they are solid and store a ton!!! Do you see the heart? Sweet!<br />

This Mahogany desk came by way of one of our Prairie Market customers that was having a garage sale and thought someone might want it as a project. That is so sweet! I wish I had a before of it. The top had a huge stain on it and some of the delicate carved fretwork was missing, and the finish had a lot of texture. Many times I've found some of these pieces were stored somewhere in extreme heat and they end up with a bubbly/alligator like finish. That doesn't always bother me though as some texture can be fun to work with on an antique piece. At any rate, I went with Black Velvet for a color. Hello, mahogany you famous bleeders! The top sanded down beautifully. And I was able to scab together enough of the detailed fretwork to leave it on the front legs. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I am so pleased with how it turned out. The top is now refinished and shows that amazing mahogany.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9kvDd4nz72sPmMcOsQJfFtYxcoQoxYqOsxNgJqZmi3N2Y0vhrvxwLVQjXo2XvYgzJp5wyp1XKXYmBe__JtvfEVJc1t7KVtHsmXJIWeacorIDKQKrWuJTd4SzlnTrhEJDYi83OVnZJleA/s1600/BVDeskClose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9kvDd4nz72sPmMcOsQJfFtYxcoQoxYqOsxNgJqZmi3N2Y0vhrvxwLVQjXo2XvYgzJp5wyp1XKXYmBe__JtvfEVJc1t7KVtHsmXJIWeacorIDKQKrWuJTd4SzlnTrhEJDYi83OVnZJleA/s640/BVDeskClose.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
The hardware is original and matches exactly the fretwork that runs down the inset in the legs. This desk is finished on all 4 sides so it can be "floating" in the middle of a room with chairs on both sides. <br />
I guess you could even use it as a small kitchen table. It is on pretty metal casters also.<br />

See how lovely the top turned out? I just love this piece and would keep it in a heartbeat if I had one inch of extra space in my home. So it is headed out to the Prairie Market which starts on Friday! Squeal! <br />
<br />
The details on this piece: The stain is Minwax, Jacobean, Finish is Minwax, Antique Oil<br />
Paint: is DIY Paint, Black Velvet (Do you all have to sing the song whenever you say this name? I do.) Finish is DIY Paint, Crystal Clear Chandelier Liquid Patina. An awesome wipe on water based finish! <br />

The Bohemian Blue Buffet, B3 for short, was a fun gal to repair and restyle. She did have a lot of veneer damage on both sides at the bottom. It seems so many of these pieces, as they are moved through the generations, show some damage. I imagine it is where people grabbed them to lift, and loose veneer doesn't need much encouragement to come off completely than a touch. And once they start tearing off watch out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKpYitSFeHlzB5YP6ZQ8p19OuU_W1lIMQSo1ocXBjNT4eNlmKPHB63BEueDf0mKKFEv-FwnTrIDyFwWBuleFb2bN3Cn2DxQ4AURThf-YK9Orx6e9CLZK8GuPTFDYPb6f5GohH0Au6tT0w/s1600/Buffet+before.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKpYitSFeHlzB5YP6ZQ8p19OuU_W1lIMQSo1ocXBjNT4eNlmKPHB63BEueDf0mKKFEv-FwnTrIDyFwWBuleFb2bN3Cn2DxQ4AURThf-YK9Orx6e9CLZK8GuPTFDYPb6f5GohH0Au6tT0w/s640/Buffet+before.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
One of the few that I grabbed a snapshot of for a blurry before photo. We secured a piece of trim board on the bottom of both sides as they were ragged and sawtoothed from all the missing wood. There was also damage to the corners of many of the drawers and on the lower front piece of trim. The top here has already had all the water rings sanded off and is restrained and finished. Hey, it was almost a true before photo.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But she cleaned up nice didn't she? Don't you just love that original hardware?? Oh my gosh, I get so excited when I can keep the original hardware, and this stuff though the brass was worn and peeling in spots was so cool.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I added some copper mica powders to Aqua Clear Top Coat (an Heirloom Traditions Paint product) that I carry. Brushed on a couple of coats and the hardware is nice and shiny again.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The top was a worn out mess, but turned out beautiful! That dark wood top looks gorgeous with the teal like Bohemian Blue from my DIY Paint line. Debi Beard knew what she was doing when she created this color! It is so soothing and subtle and will work well on so many different types of furniture. I just love the classic lines from this Art Deco period piece. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And look, those damaged sides ended up looking pretty darn good thanks to that little trim board that covers up and resupports that broken and thin edge. Sweet!</div>

This is the last of the Sorority house desks! I know, I'm sad too. This last one just had to be a bit different from the rest right. Let's see, we made restyled a couple as...desks...a few as nightstands...one as our check out counter...how about a Bar/Kitchen Cart next! And so we did.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUnYmeNZmfkouIl3-c1Cm3kEGKyZZSIEwYvpVAQcgOgrLPxklQ0_kJnF_13dhi_v-FDU2wDUWsVjDJHcb-4AJij7b9rAzyvlCVh-84HdB3KAj8e-hKRu5ppmz5SB-oyWBWkiAMaE_jcAI/s1600/Cart1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="506" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUnYmeNZmfkouIl3-c1Cm3kEGKyZZSIEwYvpVAQcgOgrLPxklQ0_kJnF_13dhi_v-FDU2wDUWsVjDJHcb-4AJij7b9rAzyvlCVh-84HdB3KAj8e-hKRu5ppmz5SB-oyWBWkiAMaE_jcAI/s640/Cart1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The Mr. added 2 handy pull out shelves for me, wheels and a couple of handle/towel hangers and a trimmed out Oak Top. <br />
Sweet huh?! Love him!<br />

Because this desk had over 60 years of heavy duty use I decided to make my paint very texturey (technical term of course). This would only add to and enhance the rougher spots and make it very fun to distress back and show off this pretty color...Old '57, from DIY Paint.<br />

This cart comes complete with some vintage barware and a Bamboo Owl cutting board. I lined the drawers with some great old maps that I had. <br />

The shelves will pull out part way from either the front or the back. The color on top is Faded Linen and I used the Dark & Decrepit Liquid Patina as my finish coat. The oak top is stained and protected with Antique Oil. It is water resistant and wipeable and can be reapplied every couple of years for added protection.<br />

Here's a nice blurry before of where I started after the construction and staining the top. I can't believe this is the only before I took, but there you have it.<br />
<br />
The inspiration for this came out of an old Better Homes and Garden magazine I had. Don't know which issue as I often just tear out a page when I see something I like. I wish I knew who to credit the original design to. If you know, let me know, ya know?!<br />
<br />
Hope you had a great 4th of July, now get out there and enjoy the rest of the month because it is going to fly by! This piece will be available at the Prairie Market Sale, which is in less than 2 weeks!!<br />

Whenever we're at the 2 week mark before a big sale it seems I have a lot of (finally) photographed projects to share. Mind you, not all of these were finished in the last 2 weeks, more like the last 2 months. I'll try to take photos right away, but sometimes that just isn't possibly and I'll wait until I can get it done and then take them of a lot of finished projects all at once. Here is another I shot and finally edited this week. Next up, a simple chair finish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp2swCX3n2IhPR6T0xhfnb6v2IcCm0UwXntmH9mlr6EA5l9eUL9_OdXdiRna_d9w0S8s1V6PUQWuYZYMJ9c_YAw_MYeGrqQ9YPHse0fsg1Hnm7Y_j1WRwcGi5-0T4_Ppkhl1wiKqsPROo/s1600/Chair1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp2swCX3n2IhPR6T0xhfnb6v2IcCm0UwXntmH9mlr6EA5l9eUL9_OdXdiRna_d9w0S8s1V6PUQWuYZYMJ9c_YAw_MYeGrqQ9YPHse0fsg1Hnm7Y_j1WRwcGi5-0T4_Ppkhl1wiKqsPROo/s640/Chair1.jpg" width="596" /></a></div>
<br />
Forgot the before on this one too. One day I just snatched it and decided I wanted to 'get er done'. The nice clean lines of mid-century modern. This one had been chewed on a bit and had some very rough and worn spots that needed some sanding down. Not a good candidate for refinishing and besides, she looks good in green doesn't she?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I adore this fun fabric and could have painted this chair in any one of those hues and been so happy. This chair is bound for the Prairie Market sale and I am getting so excited to finish up the last of the big pieces so I can work on some small items to have at the sale! Have a super day!<br />

Now this is a fun and easy process, but it does require some patience or a night when you are going to be up until 2:00 A.M. anyway so you might as well be removing paper from a vanity. Good thing I had one of those nights!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8h4aOSLLfCPxkl7dqhQHLgv5viopL98XQXZ1_Lkh1xONdzwHgIc9nNpKGq89wIdmw6nkVt40BwEd7G-HParCa10_KzhUdB6uYTWM8mZq3mlxivpCuec8JH0NSnyP-U-kCfx6YtS14XtY/s1600/Vanity1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="604" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8h4aOSLLfCPxkl7dqhQHLgv5viopL98XQXZ1_Lkh1xONdzwHgIc9nNpKGq89wIdmw6nkVt40BwEd7G-HParCa10_KzhUdB6uYTWM8mZq3mlxivpCuec8JH0NSnyP-U-kCfx6YtS14XtY/s640/Vanity1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd say it was worth staying up late for this result wouldn't you? DIY Paint's Crystal Clear Liquid Patina is a wonderful Transfer Medium in addition to being a sealant. I practiced on a much smaller piece first and when I achieved success had my poster of fancy ladies all ready to go. Here are the details: 1. Paint your piece first, mine is painted in Vintage Linen over Prairie Gray. 2. Distress and seal your entire piece in Liquid Patina. (You may seal the main body in wax or the Dark and Decrepit Liquid Patina if you are wanting a more aged appearance, but the surface for the transfer should be sealed in the clear patina.) 3. Once dry, measure and cut out your poster/paper. Give it a generous coat of Liquid Patina ON THE PRINTED SIDE. Immediately lay this coated side down on your surface and with a brayer smooth it out, removing all bubbles. You may need to wipe up any patina that squirts out from under so check the edges once you are finished smoothing it. Then walk away from it. Really. Don't get in a hurry to remove the paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI-w_FGuH6OAbyr5dOW5F_MUTmJDuQDEjIR8KimpA_cEmTL89l55Pm8mSgcL54ropywDiUs9xZQtGde9Z8d16z2oKXgVXrrxQCP73rls_vb9cSETyVYV7WcG85rI1GscxVYlRTE7Wma3o/s1600/Vanity2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI-w_FGuH6OAbyr5dOW5F_MUTmJDuQDEjIR8KimpA_cEmTL89l55Pm8mSgcL54ropywDiUs9xZQtGde9Z8d16z2oKXgVXrrxQCP73rls_vb9cSETyVYV7WcG85rI1GscxVYlRTE7Wma3o/s640/Vanity2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
4. I gave mine a good 12 hours to dry and set itself before I started removing the paper backing. To do this have a spray water bottle handy. Spritz and gently rub your fingers over the wet area until the paper begins to roll up. Then rub and rub and rub until you get all the paper off. It will take some time or patience so good music or a nice long movie is helpful. 5. When it first dries it may have quite a haze. That is either more paper or more likely the dried on liquid patina. So keep spritzing, rubbing off the patina (you can feel it on your ultra sensitive fingertips)until you feel the super smooth finish. I kept a soft rag handy to wipe off the patina as it softened and balled up. This last part takes some time. 6. Once you have removed, gently, all the patina and paper residue let it dry. It might not be crystal clear, but it is not super hazy any longer. There may be some parts that no matter how gentle you might have been did not transfer. I lost one of the ladies' hat. If you have painted your piece in a color that will blend into the background this helps hide those spots. It also helps that my poster print was of a Monet style painting where details were not sharp and clear to begin with. More forgiving. 7. Once your piece is dried seal it. I sealed with the Clear Patina. I actually did 4 very thin coats and I changed direction, horizontal to vertical, to create a linen or canvas effect. For a more durable water resistant finish I topped it all off with 2 coats of Aqua Clear, the Heirloom Traditions top coat that I am LOVING!<br />

<br />
I chose to line the drawer with some fun paper, added a new fashion forward knob on the drawer and covered the bench seat in a fabric that I found that mimicked the colors in the poster. TaDa! A fun transformation!<br />
In the upper right hand corner is a Shop DIY Paint with a red '<b><u>affiliate link' button</u></b> under it. This will take you to my online shop within Heirloom Traditions. You can find the Paints and Crystal Clear Liquid Patina within the shop. And better yet, they have packaged a product for those who are only looking for a Transfer Medium under the "Sealers & Additives" section called <b>1 Gel Instant Transfer Medium & Decopauge! </b>There are also other great products that might interest you creatively! <br />
<br />
Have a super week!<br />

<a href="javascript:void((function(){var%20e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());"><img alt="Pin It" class="aligncenter" src="http://www.clickinmoms.com/cmprodaily/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/pinit.jpg" /></a><br />
It always seems like a good idea. You know, learning something new for my business, until it comes down to crunch time anyway. I have two chairs, and no before photo so use your imaginations please, with rush seats. The seats were a bit worse for wear if you know what I mean, but otherwise the chairs were in perfect condition. Sometimes I feel the need for explaining why I would even buy some of what I buy. Anyhow, with preps madly under way for Prairie Market (mark your calendars now!), I just kept pushing them back because I knew what dealing with them meant. Yup, tackling something I had never done before. And sometimes you just have to decide, do I really WANT to learn something new this week or not. Obviously I chose not to tackle this right now. No Thank You! I will someday, but not this time around. So then what to do with 2 chairs with less than desirable seats? Make a bench of course!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-h0q-gfGWf8TE8GaKomORxIhMo15VdOrucv3tQl5aILeKL4mBV1EEDuBMyYYcgdEEHoZeUI3M0lslzpAl1LUeOY-KnqsCEN9xsqBv0sTGy35-TKQTR6KCC-G158kMdr-oLHV5kkesIqw/s1600/Peacockbench1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="594" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-h0q-gfGWf8TE8GaKomORxIhMo15VdOrucv3tQl5aILeKL4mBV1EEDuBMyYYcgdEEHoZeUI3M0lslzpAl1LUeOY-KnqsCEN9xsqBv0sTGy35-TKQTR6KCC-G158kMdr-oLHV5kkesIqw/s640/Peacockbench1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
And with the Mr.'s help that's just what we did. I think I like it more than I would have with 2 new chairs. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimcAzlhamIcUdWGWjX266BvkH_kPYa8GDKAhu6QBt__oSQF0ZFcDrazBe_nRmh9FNvmDDHZvtHtHyOW_XQWO4rTJ4r6ZQKFHiN1qW_bejp-khkTfqp0RQPor5Kv6DQdNOFZYIT4zzfqms/s1600/peacockbench2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="604" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimcAzlhamIcUdWGWjX266BvkH_kPYa8GDKAhu6QBt__oSQF0ZFcDrazBe_nRmh9FNvmDDHZvtHtHyOW_XQWO4rTJ4r6ZQKFHiN1qW_bejp-khkTfqp0RQPor5Kv6DQdNOFZYIT4zzfqms/s640/peacockbench2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
It is so sturdy with those nice big bolts anchoring it down. Wouldn't it be cute in a mud room, or for a pop of color on a grand front porch?<br />

It is finished in a color called Peacock and a product from Heirloom Traditions called Aqua Clear. Heirloom Traditions is the parent company and manufacturer for Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint that I retail. I can not tell you how much respect and love I have for Paula at HT and Debi at DIY Paint. They are both so forward thinking and kind and respectful and I could go on forever. I am able to retail some HT products in my booth and I will be adding Aqua Clear for sure with my next order. I wanted to work with it before I offered it to you so I could help you with your projects. I LOVE it a lot. It is a water resistant finish, not water proof (so don't go putting my bench out in the middle of your rose bed in the rain). But a covered porch should be just great!<br />
<br />

<br />
So here is another lovely offering for the Prairie Market sale on July 17 & 18 in Gretna at the Big Red Barn by the Middle school. We are all working feverishly to finish up some great products for you. I tell you, we are really going outside the box with some creative endeavors this year. You need to mark your calendars. While you are at it, you can follow me on Facebook by pushing that handy little "F" button on the sidebar. And though there is no button for it (because I never thought I would join) you can also follow me on Instagram (TWICENICEFURNITURE), and Prairie Market is also on Facebook with lots of pre-sale photos (Prairie Market Gals) and you should follow that too! I will stop because I am starting to sound bossy again. <br />
<br />
Have a super weekend! It's almost here so hang on!<br />

How about two in a row that are sweet and petite? Of course you can handle it!<br />
<br />
I forgot the before photo of this one. But it was just the shell of a small side table/bookshelf in battered brown. Almost all of my pieces are battered. The Mr. calls the workshop the shelter for abused furniture. It was missing it's only shelf too, but not to worry. Viola`.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrLow6j-slOK013PVmnVE3shqTsPGl8UzWY3QZy0-2OXBVVOnLGg5oeViSZRL9wXo3Yp7z9Ye2xjvpmRuZVPjqqmI81GamnxZN8y2UlkFP78pS1pYPpxJCGep9kc7kFNYnKCoqxrqWJNM/s1600/bookshelf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="502" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrLow6j-slOK013PVmnVE3shqTsPGl8UzWY3QZy0-2OXBVVOnLGg5oeViSZRL9wXo3Yp7z9Ye2xjvpmRuZVPjqqmI81GamnxZN8y2UlkFP78pS1pYPpxJCGep9kc7kFNYnKCoqxrqWJNM/s640/bookshelf.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We made it a new shelf out of one I found floating around the thrift store. There was nothing wrong with the back of this piece, but I thought it might need a bit of pizazz. Since I follow Sweet Pickins blog and have watched Shauna's tutorial I gave it my own shot on some cedar boards I had around. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7ygZx4RIy2jKUJEnOYAe4cmFAYcAAISn2lWzW_osG_ukYffugFYLi1wfjDxy853xzAK2vDp9LyKPZGMAf1ff5E5Vcr3CVBx7UpMAq3QxmNFQ1yHczMMSIu3Zkd82RG7s11hDlCuKkJgY/s1600/bookshelfclose2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="458" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7ygZx4RIy2jKUJEnOYAe4cmFAYcAAISn2lWzW_osG_ukYffugFYLi1wfjDxy853xzAK2vDp9LyKPZGMAf1ff5E5Vcr3CVBx7UpMAq3QxmNFQ1yHczMMSIu3Zkd82RG7s11hDlCuKkJgY/s640/bookshelfclose2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Paper napkins modge lodged on the boards. Since the boards were new to begin with I lightly sanded off the roughness and gave them a wash of paint in Weathered Wood, one of the new DIY Paint line paints. Love that color btw! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgLG4FOYQQhZACKabDdT94czO2lSHt-bLCPyX0HNyhyphenhyphenF0yl7s9fs0z2uVTnO2QShW6jKf45YdpUIap8mGsLfe9CuEKKaVcBMpAUFBVk6L6XYU79updcob2kI3tyAfSAZ7Q43XUNdtsNiE/s1600/bookcasecloser3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgLG4FOYQQhZACKabDdT94czO2lSHt-bLCPyX0HNyhyphenhyphenF0yl7s9fs0z2uVTnO2QShW6jKf45YdpUIap8mGsLfe9CuEKKaVcBMpAUFBVk6L6XYU79updcob2kI3tyAfSAZ7Q43XUNdtsNiE/s640/bookcasecloser3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Is it considered an addiction if I confess that I have since gone out and bought 18 more packages of pretty napkins? I kid you not. I just love seeing the wood peek through them.<br />

The colors used for this little sweetie are Vintage Linen and Petticoat Pink. DIY Paint line of course.<br />
One of my partners in the Prairie Market just finished creating a beautiful dresser in these very same colors for the sale. Look for both pieces sitting together at the sale. You could make some young lady very, very happy!!<br />
<br />
Happy Hump Day!<br />

There are some pieces that are frequently requested by the ladies who shop our sales, my booth, and the store where I consign some furniture. Here are some of the descriptors they use, "storage, narrow, petite, versatile, not too wide, smallish, and fun". They are wanting something for the landing spot in their home, be it near the front door or the back door drop zone, everyone needs something that is non-intrusive to set the keys, purse, or mail on, and to store a few items in. I am always on the lookout for those types of pieces, which don't seem to grow on trees!<br />
<br />
Meet Petite Sweet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5wjiZlQsN1eNfXKBC8kTTriAbkpi1ybHlWDFPjBqm7IXxLytZAoTk6S1PFOQ8afsyOG8BwZa15tB1VNbvcCvo3zIgZ2Ff3MPQwpjH-NT9i9IrUr1A6ax0bvAswm2qU-8hODZ-HWybzOs/s1600/smallgreen4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5wjiZlQsN1eNfXKBC8kTTriAbkpi1ybHlWDFPjBqm7IXxLytZAoTk6S1PFOQ8afsyOG8BwZa15tB1VNbvcCvo3zIgZ2Ff3MPQwpjH-NT9i9IrUr1A6ax0bvAswm2qU-8hODZ-HWybzOs/s640/smallgreen4.jpg" width="514" /></a></div>
She meets most, if not all, of the descriptors above. This cute little cabinet was a very lucky find. She had dings, but was sound and clean. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtqUtErfTbnkYXzJOVDesuwBhLRqSf7edZ5vzc_XHZ9Ad0HGY8BYRPTDZRH2s3TTHZ2PrDS2smlRK4FLXkOFWKAhsmt-_M1wEGMKO6wxnIB4e2Z4gXYbNEqBn0Om6KtO3CVC9Au4gWxjI/s1600/Smallgreen1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="561" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtqUtErfTbnkYXzJOVDesuwBhLRqSf7edZ5vzc_XHZ9Ad0HGY8BYRPTDZRH2s3TTHZ2PrDS2smlRK4FLXkOFWKAhsmt-_M1wEGMKO6wxnIB4e2Z4gXYbNEqBn0Om6KtO3CVC9Au4gWxjI/s640/Smallgreen1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I love any piece that allows me to store some items out of sight, but within arms reach. This is narrow enough to serve as a side table between a couple of chairs, or in a small entry hall as a great place to put your purse, add a basket for all the car keys, set the mail down, well you get the idea. What would you use her for?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAnF_WqTmSelD8w2bZIZzUR29X5fRDyzdKCammA1HsRXQeo6nkWpxfwc5YEpXU4G9-vrykOSgz_AECfUm0MnUgANpFGhJZKlL4VBwMDeg5lJWkvxgViRP0_Vtwlv7BVAurBgxM0nBjTWs/s1600/Smallgreen3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAnF_WqTmSelD8w2bZIZzUR29X5fRDyzdKCammA1HsRXQeo6nkWpxfwc5YEpXU4G9-vrykOSgz_AECfUm0MnUgANpFGhJZKlL4VBwMDeg5lJWkvxgViRP0_Vtwlv7BVAurBgxM0nBjTWs/s640/Smallgreen3.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
Love the pretty lines and details on her. This color is Gypsy Green, a new DIY Paint color. I'd say Debi Beard nailed this color perfectly! Love it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS0XJHa7UWu6i3KEdPHHZPdfRuW1QocLwVMFc7J22qc4NNuWo9Ds_k8S-Uty1lpggnLvwMgdoIAFsH2vEAs5OAZY7KZbzLYn75CAAUEkr7_vZeA0r5ZoHk8oQbJa9-bdxeyw3JsYRRAKk/s1600/smallgreen2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS0XJHa7UWu6i3KEdPHHZPdfRuW1QocLwVMFc7J22qc4NNuWo9Ds_k8S-Uty1lpggnLvwMgdoIAFsH2vEAs5OAZY7KZbzLYn75CAAUEkr7_vZeA0r5ZoHk8oQbJa9-bdxeyw3JsYRRAKk/s640/smallgreen2.jpg" width="552" /></a></div>
Why I can't keep all these pieces is beyond me, but the Mr. moved it to the "getting ready for the Prairie Market pile" and told me to slap a price tag on it. So that's where it will go. Bummer for me, bonus for you all!<br />
<br />
Hope you are having a fun filled Summer!<br />

Inspiration comes from many places, and sometimes out of the blue. I got a really good deal on a nice, clean mid-century modern blond oak dresser. They don't seem terribly popular, go figure.<br />
Here it is in it's before glory.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZqBqfbWhyphenhyphen1odrvfnN2d_8mcsXlrsHJwHv5ujl1oeRNYzsb7lhqUa0XDFmIzcDGtuXeYv9TtkZHEPf0WTvKky9C-Mo2qKXqOm4ewJHT34qr4qJFHOU2aSlACzc40dd4XG7pHqQqF66aoc/s1600/DSC_0366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZqBqfbWhyphenhyphen1odrvfnN2d_8mcsXlrsHJwHv5ujl1oeRNYzsb7lhqUa0XDFmIzcDGtuXeYv9TtkZHEPf0WTvKky9C-Mo2qKXqOm4ewJHT34qr4qJFHOU2aSlACzc40dd4XG7pHqQqF66aoc/s640/DSC_0366.JPG" width="424" /></a></div>
A little rough and a lot plain jane. It would have worked for another subway dresser I told myself. I could try some really fun transfer graphic on it I thought. I just could not get going though. A cold start and just no get up and go when it came to this piece. I was not inspired to do much of anything with it, and nearly took it off to re-donate. So I worked on other projects and shoved it in the corner.<br />
Then it hit me.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrwDXD02N_83l1sadotzSfK7a8NNURCx_mCwY4Yzu5XfKybCXuTZZZEjbI-9-LfVoaToS_oosbTj2xXheZU_4C_mTbf5rPdq7cDpY7MI6gat5ykzn1XB5tBB_vFgyhtq2oN1jo6-ldCLo/s1600/Houndstooth5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrwDXD02N_83l1sadotzSfK7a8NNURCx_mCwY4Yzu5XfKybCXuTZZZEjbI-9-LfVoaToS_oosbTj2xXheZU_4C_mTbf5rPdq7cDpY7MI6gat5ykzn1XB5tBB_vFgyhtq2oN1jo6-ldCLo/s400/Houndstooth5.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This rather funky (and off-season) oil cloth that I use for a drop cloth on my work table caught my imagination. Houndstooth. I even had a houndstooth stencil. And so the rather plain mid-century dresser got 'all dressed up' and is ready for an official release.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhir-EedCKpkJ3upx5kRlYXaLvB1oX2rzdAGWQC1av6cV5D1HGdnKhSuyGeApFqGFa4w3GhmnpECXZ_edzD8Ulck3Iwwn7ipJL35ceey0oDCumNBmhn0H7fj-RRcMZLDDQHkhM_3qVmEDU/s1600/Houndstooth1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhir-EedCKpkJ3upx5kRlYXaLvB1oX2rzdAGWQC1av6cV5D1HGdnKhSuyGeApFqGFa4w3GhmnpECXZ_edzD8Ulck3Iwwn7ipJL35ceey0oDCumNBmhn0H7fj-RRcMZLDDQHkhM_3qVmEDU/s640/Houndstooth1.jpg" width="466" /></a></div>
She's classic, she's clean, she's still got a bit of that 50's sass because she's sporting some snappy houndstooth. You know, in their bland blond state these dressers are so unappealing. But if you put some color on them, shazam! They are great canvas' for some pretty creative moments. The storage is fabulous in this piece. The drawers are solid, dove-tailed, clean and deep. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhug4nFplYKFMDPh5TGAIS5SHUmjh4f4QGPfRZV47XEQ3I6fpAMXFJCEuI5thHqnXnOnLiqvoYfiUvM5ZaQA0j4jF9_7jtzJWg7iamWkHqjxuDjjZZ7j_zccU0gGXufBihOQs1s6JCmHCg/s1600/Houndstooth2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhug4nFplYKFMDPh5TGAIS5SHUmjh4f4QGPfRZV47XEQ3I6fpAMXFJCEuI5thHqnXnOnLiqvoYfiUvM5ZaQA0j4jF9_7jtzJWg7iamWkHqjxuDjjZZ7j_zccU0gGXufBihOQs1s6JCmHCg/s400/Houndstooth2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Dizzy, I'm so dizzy my head is spinning'... It really does make you dizzy. And if I'm honest I was extremely happy when I painted that last row. Just keepin' it real...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And just so I don't cause any permanent eye damage I kept it solid on the sides and top. You are welcome!<br />
<br />
All DIY Paint products: Black Velvet and Beadboard, paints. I did not prime, but I tested for tannin bleed through and decided to clear seal the wood prior to painting to avoid the wood tannins from seeping up. I used Heirloom Traditions Aqua Clear in Satin to seal. This was a new to me product, but man I do believe I am going to love this. <br />
<br />
Have a wonderful week friends!<br />

Apothecary is one of the new Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint's newest colors. It is a soft blue/green color. Honestly it is a changeling. Depneding on the lighting, the undercoat, the background it can appear to read differently. I love colors like that! It reminds me of the Sherwin Williams Colors that I have painted my bedroom in, Sea Salt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF4YtG7S6FKYrjgyHjmaOpp4c7AsZ9eUbCfnJSeB4BVQSBGK7NiOykYVbu3uCK6sEZhk2686d0qWltYGiVtf83GAeHTaul3WQeptb0ji3OuXZeEzWZ2JOCuRzLJVPHKBJxKq__rZGRH20/s1600/Apothecary1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF4YtG7S6FKYrjgyHjmaOpp4c7AsZ9eUbCfnJSeB4BVQSBGK7NiOykYVbu3uCK6sEZhk2686d0qWltYGiVtf83GAeHTaul3WQeptb0ji3OuXZeEzWZ2JOCuRzLJVPHKBJxKq__rZGRH20/s640/Apothecary1.jpg" width="474" /></a></div>
It just such a fun color to work with and it certainly brightened up this rather beat up piece. When I'm working on an old gal like this I'm reminded about my family, specifically my great Grandmother's family. My GG Minnie came from a family of carpenters. All of her brothers were cabinet makers. I imagine them working on a piece much like this one and the great sense of pride they must have felt when it was complete and oh so grand looking. This particular dresser, like many that I find, had huge oil rings left on the top, chipped veneers and a few dings and dents. Many, once newer prettier furniture was purchased were sent to garages, barns and basements to store everyday cleaning/work supplies. Thank heavens they weren't thrown out. So while I can't always repair the hard use they've endured I can give it a few more good and useful years with a pretty coat of paint. I think all those great Uncles might appreciate that. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love these knobs with the dresser. I think it perfectly reflects the age and color of this piece. But I opted to do something different on the top drawers, which were much smaller.<br />

Couple of things...<br />
<br />
1. I seem to be musically driven even though I have no particular gifts in that area.<br />
<br />
2. I like bright colors.<br />
<br />
Here is another piece that actually ended up being named. I don't know why it is that some pieces I find/buy sing to me, but they do. Right away the lines on this particular piece said fairy tale. Which immediately took me to "Into the Woods" one of my favorite musicals. Probably because it presents so many lovely fairy tales in one fell swoop! I knew my DIY Paint line was releasing a new red color and I found the most perfect little knobs and voila`, Little Red was born.<br />

This gorgeous, rich color is Marquee. Debi Beard nailed this color. It is so saturated and deep and alive!<br />

I am aware that this hardware was most likely intended to be a fox. I'm pretending it could also be a wolf, but really we're in the woods so it really doesn't matter much does it? Creative license.<br />

"Into the woods, into the woods..." The movie was good, but if you ever get a chance to see the filmed Broadway production it was great! It's on my NY bucket list!<br />

I am fully stocked with Marquee and the other 6 new colors at my booth at the Brass Armadillo Omaha, #43, and at my home workshop. Let me know when you are ready to try one of them!<br />

<a href="javascript:void((function(){var%20e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());"><img alt="Pin It" class="aligncenter" src="http://www.clickinmoms.com/cmprodaily/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/pinit.jpg" /></a><br />
A fellow DIY Paints retailer, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/vintagehomelv?pnref=lhc">Josi</a> shared a wonderful technique she uses sometimes and encourage us to give it a try. Let me tell you people, I couldn't find a piece to demo it on fast enough. I LOVE this! See the all caps? I really do love this look. It is a stencil technique, but the unique thing is how you hide it. So it is like a peek-a-boo stencil. Here is the close up of my first attempt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPa9HsqXrghp-RIRmyEIgBwx4jrrnynIWBl0zzUBrb2g0o5IILmJ8DO-sul4Hw1zRzT6dIAqZouNTArhZBSz-dEsjAG4fnKWafOTgO5GjRL-W4E4in6XdOYSNUBcjnWottQ8dTCGBas0/s1600/hidden+stencil+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizPa9HsqXrghp-RIRmyEIgBwx4jrrnynIWBl0zzUBrb2g0o5IILmJ8DO-sul4Hw1zRzT6dIAqZouNTArhZBSz-dEsjAG4fnKWafOTgO5GjRL-W4E4in6XdOYSNUBcjnWottQ8dTCGBas0/s1600/hidden+stencil+close+up.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
How fun is this? The base color for my dresser is DIY Paints, Hillbilly Blue. I used various metallic paints I had on hand to stencil the drawer fronts once the base color dried.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_Sx8Z2kAY8pSm3G__WMVvPWxo59pxOBWQLwxY1Vi6fqDaf8ZdQKDkKRQ9viwr5XPlXlGohzKptcDLvixKYaH8hcMhsKKXlhNXiMJLuqtqEQNdeeUnovI0dEJrwDZEmrLvkDWO726LkE8/s1600/hidden+stencil+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_Sx8Z2kAY8pSm3G__WMVvPWxo59pxOBWQLwxY1Vi6fqDaf8ZdQKDkKRQ9viwr5XPlXlGohzKptcDLvixKYaH8hcMhsKKXlhNXiMJLuqtqEQNdeeUnovI0dEJrwDZEmrLvkDWO726LkE8/s1600/hidden+stencil+2.jpg" height="474" width="640" /></a></div>
Once the stencil was dried I applied my top color, in this case DIY Paints Gravel Road., a lovely pale gray. Then I simply wet distressed back to reveal my stencil. Tip #1, if you don't want any of your original wood to show then seal the freshly stenciled piece with liquid patina prior to painting your top coat. Tip #2, if you are planning to distress back a lot don't worry about completely covering with your final paint coat. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's the finished piece. Have a super weekend!!<br />

<a href="javascript:void((function(){var%20e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','http://assets.pinterest.com/js/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());"><img alt="Pin It" class="aligncenter" src="http://www.clickinmoms.com/cmprodaily/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/pinit.jpg" /></a><br />
It's finally Spring, and if you have a high schooler you know that means. It's Prom time!! Dresses, and shoes, and up do's, and flowers, and, and, and. Oiy!<br />
<br />
It's all fun and fun to see them all dressed up and acting all grown up. How that happens when they were just toddling about a few years ago is beyond me, but there you have it.<br />
<br />
This year, the school is not holding a dinner. Rather than go out, my daughter and her friends decided that we would host a dinner and they would all chip in with sides and desserts. I actually think that is a very smart idea. And it gave me an opportunity to diy some spring decor for the dinner. Here is one of the projects that has been sitting on my pinterest board for a long time. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiJGHAcciHln_k8hr5aoGH1ZG9hcsP6F2qL2ui1I55iYezxylyDmvyn7qJveux0USV-4u4YeBHMBNEeTvlQ_CZvWj4SR8AhSrM3H6zvkug0li8-r5Lefp97tWffXWVnwA_pAjxkPkA7Uw/s1600/Jars+for+Prom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiJGHAcciHln_k8hr5aoGH1ZG9hcsP6F2qL2ui1I55iYezxylyDmvyn7qJveux0USV-4u4YeBHMBNEeTvlQ_CZvWj4SR8AhSrM3H6zvkug0li8-r5Lefp97tWffXWVnwA_pAjxkPkA7Uw/s1600/Jars+for+Prom.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
I picked up some Ball canning jars and game them a couple of quick coats of paint to make flower vases for the tables. HL even sells the flower frog lids for them! These are several of the DIY Paint line colors (L to R, Old '57, Queen Bee, Petticoat Pink, Mint Chip, Prom Dress, Fancy Farm Girl, Cowgirl Coral). It works great on glass! I wet distressed, sealed with the Crystal Clear Patina, and had some fun decorating them with some clearance jewelry pieces I had picked up, jute and burlap ribbon. <br />
<br />
Remember the 'A-Team'? "I just love it when a plan comes together". Yeah, that feeling!<br />
<br />
What are you working on this Spring? Check out the class schedule for April in the bar at the top of the page!<br />
<br />
Have a super, springy week!<br />
